  09.05.2017 Two Double Gold medals from the San Francisco World Spirits Competition for Vermouth Padró & Co.’s packaging design

The Padró & Co. vermouths have triumphed once again at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC). The most prestigious spirits competition in the US has awarded two Double Gold medals to the Spanish producer’s bottle designs in its packaging design event, which received a total of 170 entries. The first of the two medals went to the Rojo Amargo, in the individual category and the second, to the 4-bottle pack consisting of the Dorado Amargo Suave, the Blanco Reserva, the Rojo Clásico and the Reserva Especial, in the series category.

These medals, awarded at the competition which took place on 21st April at the Nikko Hotel in San Francisco, are a further two awards to add to the numerous accolades received by Padró & Co. during the brand’s first year on the market.

The vermouth producer’s Rojo Amargo and Dorado Amargo Suave already received Silver and Bronze awards, respectively, at this year’s SFWSC in the tasting part of the competition.

The Padró & Co. vermouth packaging, designed by the Padró team, combines a vintage style with an appealing current day look. The Rojo Amargo, most recent addition to the Padró range, is especially captivating. The packaging includes a colourful arabesque design which changes when UV light falls on the bottle. In normal light, the copper colours prevail whilst in UV light, the the bottle and its fluorescent colours become even more eye-catching.

The arabesque design is predominant on the packaging of all the other vermouths in the range and the choice of colour for each different vermouth reflects the close bond between each bottle and the vermouth inside it. Added to this are the oval labels bordered also with arabesque designs and reminiscent of the traditional barrels in which the vermouth is made; the arabesque design evokes the plants, flowers and spices used to make this alcoholic beverage and the presentation in a vintage-style wooden crate bring out the essence of the past.

For all these reasons, these two new accolades reaffirm the excellence of Padró & Co., not only as a range of quality alcoholic beverages but also as a top-ranking presentation and design.

 

 

     
  03.05.2017 Padró & Co. adds to its accolades with two medals in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition

The San Francisco World Spirits Competition (SFWSC), the most prestigious spirits competition in the United States, has awarded silver and bronze medals to Padró & Co. Rojo Amargo and Padró & Co. Dorado Amargo Suave, respectively. Another two awards to add to the numerous accolades received by Padró & Co. during the brand’s first year on the market.

With these awards, the Bràfim winery’s vermouths reaffirm the widespread recognition already received from industry experts. The Dorado Amargo Suave recently achieved a top-ranking score in the Guía Peñín (94 points) and received a Silver Medal in this year’s Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition, whilst the Rojo Amargo was awarded Gold.

The two new medals bring even greater credit to the brand if we take into account the fact that over 2,100 different spirits were tasted this year and the competition received the largest number of entries ever in the 17 years it has been running. In addition, both of the vermouths sent in by Padró & Co. were awarded medals.

The panel of judges at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition is known to be one of the most objective and rigorous in the world due to an extremely strict decision-making protocol: entries are evaluated in a blind tasting in which the panel has no information at all about the product or its price. Total impartiality on the part of the judges is thus ensured.

These two new medals are a further guarantee of the recognition from expert tasters of the exceptional quality found in the Padró & Co. vermouths.

 

 

     
  21.04.2017 For Garnatxa lovers. Our POESIA brand is proud to present two new wines.

At Vins Padró the development of new wines is one of our favourite activities and we are rarely without ideas and products in the pipeline. It is four years since we launched our POESIA “family” and so this spring we are happy to announce the arrival of  two new “family members”. A white and a red Garnatxa.

These two wines are a splendid additional touch to this DO Catalunya brand, consisting up until now of a red Crianza and three young wines, a red, a white and a rosé.

WHITE GARNATXA (12.5% vol)

VINIFICATION: The grapes are harvested in the early morning and pressed immediately. The cloudy must is then kept on the lees and cooled to approximately 10ºC for three days to prevent fermentation. It is then ltered thoroughly and fermented at a temperature of approxi- mately 19ºC with repeated regular stirring so that it remains cloudy with some of its fermented yeast for a further two months to allow gradual enriching and broadness on the palate.

TASTING NOTE: Golden-white with greenish hues. Very crisp and refreshing. Aromas of tropical fruits on the nose, pineapple and mango together with zesty notes and perhaps a little grapefruit. smooth and creamy in the mouth. Memories of fruits such as peach.

PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: Japanese food, risottos, salted sh, foie de canard and goat’s cheese.

 

RED GARNATXA (13% vol)

VINIFICATION: Special 5-day long maceration of the must and grapes at 25ºC. Halfway through the alcoholic fermentation, we separate the skins from the must and fermentation of the now clear must is completed at low temperature (18ºC).
Vini cation is focused on retaining the young character of the wine, bringing out the fruit, spices and oral notes characteristic of the Red Garnatxa grape.

TASTING NOTE: Bright plum red characteristic of the Garnatxa grape with well-de ned aromas of summer fruits such as blackberries enveloped in very fragrant oral memories. Refreshingly light sensations in the mouth making this wine an excellent red for the summer.

PAIRING SUGGESTIONS: Meat paellas, pasta, tapas, grilled vegetables, paté platters, beef carpaccio, roast beef and melba toast amb tomàquet.

 

 

     
  14.03.2017 Ten gold and silver medals in the international Competition Catavinum

The Padró & Co. vermouths continue receiving accolades. Following the vermouths’ recent gold medal success at the Vinari Vermouth Awards and the top scores picked up this year from Peñín, the international Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition has now added its stamp of approval with a total of five new medals, two gold and three silver.

The Gold medals were awarded to the Reserva Especial and the spectacular Rojo Amargo. The former already received a gold medal in the Concours de Bruxelles Spirits Selection 2016, so this is the a second medal for this very unique, sweet but quite exquisite vermouth. This is also a new gold to add to the Rojo Amargo’s own array of awards since the vermouth was awarded 92/100 in this year’s  Peñín Guide. Characterised by a an impressive mise-en-scène and a distinctively radiant packaging, the Rojo Amargo looks set to become the star of the all-purpose vermouths: ideal as a lunchtime aperitif… and must-have for a night on the town.

The silver medals in this year’s Catavinum Competition went to the Rojo Clásico, the Blanco Reserva and the Dorado Amargo Suave. The latter was awarded an incredible 93/100 in the above-mentioned Peñín Guide in regognition of the fine balance in the vermouth between sweet and bitter sensations.

Tarragona apellation wines Crinel Blanc Màgic, Crinel Rosat del Bosc and Capitol Blanc, all three 2016 vintage, received silver medals. Catalunya apellation Poesía also added two silver medals, one for its 2013 Crianza and another for its 2016 Rosé, to the brand’s list of accolades.

The accolades awarded to the Padró are the icing on the cake in this venture by the Padró company in Bràfim (Tarragona) to make their own vermouths and wines assimilating the style and passion of a one-hundred year-old brand.

 

     
  02.03.2017 All five new Padró & Co. vermouths receive 90+ points in the new edition of the prestigious Guía Peñín

Vermouth Padró & Co. gets lucky. The prestigious ‘Guía Peñín’, a major reference tool for the qualification of wines and spirits, has given these new launches from the Bràfim firm top ratings. Of the five vermouths tasted for this new edition, the Dorado Amargo Suave scored highest, with 94 points out of 100. The Rojo Reserva Especial received 91 points. The other three vermouths (Rojo Clásico, Blanco Reserva and the spectacular Rojo Amargo) received 92 points.

In this new edition of Guía Peñín de los Destilados y la Coctelería, which also includes vermouths, a total of 180 vermouth references from different brands were tasted.

This new award can be added to those already received by Padró & Co. Vermouths: since their recent launch on the market they have not stopped receiving awards emphasizing their high quality, such as the Gold Vinari for the brand’s Blanco Reserva and the Gold and Grand Gold Medals for its Reserva Especial and Rojo Clásico, respectively, in the international competition Concours de Bruxelles Spirits Selection.

This good start has now been re-confirmed by the top scores from the Guía Peñín, the world’s most comprehensive manual, which recognises in this latest edition, the brand’s five vermouths by awarding them top scores.

Following the announcement of the ratings, the Salón de los Destilados took place at the Salón del Cóctel, this year in its sixth edition. Attendees were able to taste different types of cocktails, a number of which were made with vermouth.

  06.02.2017 EL VERS at the l Catalunya Appellation VINOMICS Food and Wine Pairing Event

Wine, market produce and comics were the three ingredients of the food and wine pairing event which took place at the Santa Catherina market in Barcelona on 3rd February.

Six local products from the market stalls and six Catalunya apellation wines, among them Vins Padró’s EL VERS, were tasted at the event. Each wine was accompanied by a short comic strip inspired by the world of wine and signed by well-known and talented local authors.

  02.02.2017 Padró & Co. launches its new Vermouth ROJO AMARGO at Vinisud 2017

Vinisud, International Trade Show for Mediterranean Wines and Spirits, was the venue for the launch of our new Padró & Co. vermouth: ROJO AMARGO. The five Padró & Co. vermouths in the family and all the Myrrha vermouths were on show during the 3-day event.

The trade show, held in Montpellier in the south of France boasted 20,000 visitors from 70 different countries as well as over 900 exhibitors, among producers and commercial businesses from France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Croatia and Turkey among others.

A new graphic concept for vermouth and the mixing world developed to transform aesthetically according to the type of light falling on the bottle. The new ROJO AMARGO takes you to undiscovered places, through mystic moments. A benchmark aperitif for the urban after-work and nightlife experience.

A new vermouth by Padró & Co. to light up each moment. This recent launch by the Tarragona producer is a spectacular addition to the family of four launched last year: ROJO CLÁSICO, a tribute to the very first vermouths that appeared in Spain;  DORADO AMARGO SUAVE, an Italian-style, herbal and balsamic vermouth in which the botanicals are the protagonists; RESERVA ESPECIAL, a more complex vermouth characterised by a lengthy aging process and BLANCO RESERVA, a unique white vermouth with zesty aromas typical of the Mediterranean area in which we are located.

The Padró family set up their winery back in 1886 in the village of Bràfim, very near to Tarragona and about an hour south of Barcelona, and it was here that the first generation made liqueur wines and some spirits. Spain’s prestigious Peñín Wines of Spain Guide recently published its 2017 edition with over 11,500 wines from all the different the producing areas in the country.

Four of our D.O. Tarragona wines were awarded 4/5 stars for price/quality ratio as well as achieving 87 points in the overall ratings:

  17.10.2016 Padró Vermouths at Barcelona’s VadeVermut

Barcelona’s Poble Sec neighbourhood recently hosted its 2nd Vadevermut Vermouth and Aperitif Fair.

The event is organised by the website Bares Auténticos and for 2 days visitors had the chance to taste over 20 Spanish and international brands of vermouth, including our Myrrha and Padró & Co. vermouths as well as snacks, pintxos, tapas and a range of aperitifs.

Visitors were able to taste our full range of Bràfim vermouths: our Myrrha Red, White and Reserva and the full Padró & Co. range: Rojo Clásico, Blanco Reserva, Reserva Especial and for those who are not so partial to sweet vermouths, our Dorado Amargo Suave.

The event, held at the Espai Crec in Barcelona attracted large numbers of people and also offered activities such as talks, guided tastings and workshops.

  01.10.2016 Padró & Co. and Myrrha at Expovermut 2016 in Reus

In September, Reus (the capital of Spanish vermouth) held EXPOVERMUT, the city’s 1st International Vermouth Fair, organised by the Reus Vermouth Museum as a new vermouth event aimed at both professionals and the general public.

Our Padró & Co. and Myrrha vermouths were both present at the fair with their vintage truck and a large stand at which visitors were able to taste all seven vermouths sold under these two brands as well as watch magic tricks performed by magician Jordi Caps and enjoy cocktails prepared in situ by Jordi Vizcarro (Pachito Lounge Tarragona).

The 3-day fair saw 24,000 individual tastings of the 28 brands of vermouth present. Plaza de la Llibertat in Reus was transformed into an open-air festival with musical performances and parallel activities such as:

  • Vermouth tastings with François Monti (journalist and author of the book El gran libro del Vermut) and Ester Bachs (winemaker and autor of La Guia del Vermut).
  • A Master Class with Helios Gómez, Brand Ambassador for Martini.
  • Talks on vermouth with François Monti, Josep Sucarrats, Manel Marqués and Xiscu Albertí.
  • A vermouth painting workshop run by artist Marta Aranyó.
The event was sponsored by the Reus City Hall, Reus Chamber of Commerce and local commercial promoter El Tomb de Reus.

  28.09.2016 Vins Padró at Mixologya Madrid, International Drinks and Spirits Congress

In September this year (19th and 20th) we took our Padró & Co. and Myrrha vermouths to Madrid’s International Drinks and Spirits Congress, Mixologya. Visitors were able to taste our seven different vermouths – one for each occasion and palate.

The congress, held at Madrid’s IFEMA Trade Show is a point of reference in Spain for top professionals in the drinks, spirits and cocktails industry. Activities offered at Mixologya 2016 included fusion workshops for gourmet products and Premium spirits, blind tastings, conferences and an area where members of the public were able to purchase products offered at the trade show.

This event aims to become a leading source of information on trends in the mixology industry, to inform visitors regarding the main attributes of Premium products on offer in Spain and reinforce the values and image associated with them.

     
  15.09.2016 Grand Gold and Gold Medals for Padró & Co. Vermouth at the 2016 Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles

Spirits Selection by Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, prestigious competition for spirits, the results of which are given great recognition around the world due to the rigor of its international tasters, was held this year on 24th, 25th and 26th August 2016 in Tequila, Mexico.

Spanish spirits and liqueur producers who took part this year achieved excellent results, receiving between them 1 Silver, 6 Gold and 1 Grand Gold Medal.

The Grand Gold medal was awarded to our Padró & Co. Rojo Clásico vermouth which was described as “the big surprise of the competition – a top-quality, well-balanced and tasty vermouth from Tarragona”. (Jesus Bernad – Director at Planeta Hedonista Magazine)

The other medal awarded to Padró & Co. vermouth was a Gold for our Reserva Especial.

Judges tasted a total of 1,150 spirits from 48 producer countries competing in front of a panel of some of the best tasters in the world: 74 tasters of 23 different nationalities assessed the samples submitted. This diversity of products and taster profiles give this event, which has now become a true worldwide competition for spirits, a clear stamp of originality.

 

     
  25.08.2016 Bràfim Vermouths at the Vermouth Festival in Tarragona

Last August the city of Tarragona hosted a Vermouth Festival, a special promotional event for vermouth including live performances and musical activities.

Our Padró & Co and Myrrha vermouths were just two of the brands from all over Spain taking part in the festival and the vermouth tastings were complemented by Mediterranean cuisine served from food trucks.

There was also a space at the Festival for aficionados of vintage objects and clothes and of course we brought along our Padro & Co truck from the 1920s.

The event was organized by Vermouth de la Casa on the occasion of the 230th anniversary of the very first vermouth made in Spain.

     
  03.08.2016 Vermouth Padró sponsors live performance by rock band Crossroads at Cal Garriga

In July this year, Cal Garriga in Bràfim (Tarragona) hosted another “Nights in the Open Air” evening sponsored by Vermouth Padró.

A lively evening was had by all with performances of songs by some of the great names in blues and rock, including Chuck Berry, Gary Moore, ZZ Top, Bobby Blue Bland, Bo Didley, Otis Rush, Jimmy Rogers, Aretha Franklin and Etta James.

Master mixologist Jordi Vizcarro (Pachito Lounge, Tarragona) and his Gala Cocktail, made with Myrrha white vermouth, were with us once again throughout the evening.

  18.06.2016 Padró Wines and Vermouths at the 2016 DO Tarragona Wine Fair

June 12 marked the end of the XVIII DO Tarragona Wine Fair. The fair was well-attended and recorded over 26,000 tastings.

Over three days, the fair brought together around twenty exhibitors, including a number of DO Tarragona wineries, one of which was Vins Padró with its IPSIS wines (DO Tarragona), a new medium sweet white wine: NABUC Blanco Mediterráneo and its two vermouth brands: MYRRHA and PADRÓ & CO.

One of the main attractions was the vintage Vermouth Padró & Co. truck located at the Bràfim winery’s stand. Visitors to the fair were also able to try two vermouth-based cocktails: a Negroni and a Gala, prepared and served by master barman Jordi Vizcarro.

The fair opened with a traditional walkaround by representatives from local authorities led by Incavi Director, Salvador Puig; President of the DO Tarragona, Josep Lluís Groguès; Government Delegate, Oscar Peris and Councilor for Public Services in the City of Tarragona, Anna Santos, among others, as well as board members and sponsors.

06.06.2016 IPSIS wines come first and second in the D.O. Tarragona 2016 Bottled Wines Awards

The XXIII D.O. Tarragona Bottled Wines Awards were held this year on Thursday 2nd June. Vins Padró was awarded first prize in the Dry Whites category for our unoaked Ipsis Chardonnay 2015 and we came second with our IPSIS Crianza 2012 in the Red Crianzas category.

A blind tasting of the 90 or so wines presented, took place a few weeks previously at the Faculty of Oenology at Tarragona’s Universitat Rovira I Virgili and involved a panel of 20 tasters, led by Montse Nadal, Professor of Oenology at the University. The awards are divided into nine categories, and were distributed between 11 wineries producing D.O. Tarragona wines.

The ceremony, held at one of the Port of Tarragona’s dockside exhibition warehouses, was chaired by the president of the D.O. Tarragona Regulatory Board, Josep Lluís Groqués, accompanied by Joan Basora, Development Director at the Port of Tarragona; Elvira Ferrando, First Deputy Mayor of Tarragona; Oscar Peris, Delegate of the Government of Catalonia; and other local government councilors and representatives from the different wineries, in addition to representatives from the panel of tasters and members of the D.O. Tarragona Regulatory Board.

25.05.2016 Decanter Bronze for Ipsis Tempranillo Merlot 2015

Our Ipsis Young Red received a Bronze Award and 86 points in this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards.

In this competition judges taste each wine individually and are informed only of the region style and price range of each wine. The judges then compare notes and come to a joint decision as regards which medal should go to which wine. Tastings are organised according to country, region, colour, vintage and price of each wine in order to ensure that wines are assessed only against other wines in similar categories.

     
  11.05.2016 VINARI Gold for Padro & Co White Reserva Vermouth

One of Vins Padro’s newly launched products, our Padro&Co White Reserva vermouth, has won a Gold Medal at the VINARI Catalan Vermouth Awards 2016, held on 9th May  in Reus. The vermouth, presented at the end of April at the Alimentaria trade show in Barcelona,  was selected by a panel of judges as the best vermouth in the white, golden and orange category.

Tasting Notes
(By winemaker Guillem Panisello)

A clear and bright, straw-yellow vermouth with golden hues. Intense and very pleasant aromas with hints of sweet herbs such as gentian, star anise, lemon verbena, cinchona and angelica. Balance and complexity in equal parts. Elegant, smooth, refined and well-rounded on the palate. Very slightly sweet and bitter at the same time with a delicate touch of citrus in the finish giving the vermouth a freshness and wonderful, deliciously sweet aftertaste.

The White Reserva (Blanco Reserva) is one of a range of four new premium-brand vermouths recently launched by the Bràfim winery. The other three vermouths in this new Padro&Co family are a Special Reserva (Reserva Especial), a Classic Red (Rojo Clásico) and a Mildly Bitter Golden (Dorado Amargo Suave).

This is not the first time Vins Padró has received recognition for its vermouths from the VINARI Awards. Last year the winery’s Original Brand vermouth Myrrha Reserva won bronze in the competition.
 
The awards ceremony took place at the Rofes old winery in Reus, now Vermuts Rofes restaurant, and was chaired by actor and comedian Toni Alba. Also present were the Mayor of Reus, Mr. Carlos Pellicer, Head of the Catalan Agricultural and Territorial Services Agency, Mr. Angel Xifre and competition organizers Salvador Cot, editor of the VINARI Group and Eva Vicens, director of the VINARI Awards.
 
The panel of judges, professional tasters and journalists, tasted a total of 52 vermouths in their search for the very best Catalan vermouths have to offer.
 
The VINARI Catalan Vermouth Awards are organized by digital news agency VADEVI.cat, with the support of the City of Reus Promotional Board and are sponsored by the Cal Masso Art Centre, Vermuts Rofes restaurant, the Club del Barman, Gràfiques Varias and soda-siphon company Sanmy-Geiser.

  05.05.2016 Vins Padró launches major new products at Alimentaria 2016

The winery had a sizeable presence at Alimentaria this year in order to present two new products for 2016: Vermouth Padró & Co. and Nabuc.

All eyes were on the launch of a new line of four vermouths, Padro & Co., targeting the premium and cocktail market: a Special Reserva, a White Reserva, a Mildy Bitter Golden and a Classic Red.

Nabuc, a medium - sweet white wine with enormous character, was the other main novelty that aroused much interest among visitors.

Also featured at the stand were the winery’s flagship products: the three Myrrhas (our Original line of vermouths), our seven Ipsis wines (D.O. Tarragona), and the four Poesías (D.O. Catalunya).

During the fair, visitors also had the chance to taste our vermouth cocktails: a Negroni made using our Padró & Co. Special Reserva and a Gala using our Myrrha white vermouth. The cocktails were created and prepared by Tarragona bar-owner and cocktail crackerjack Jordi Vizcarro.

In addition, local magician Jordi Caps was present at the stand throughout the trade show, to entertain visitors and add a bit of fun.

Alimentaria 2016, food and wine trade show held at the Fira Gran Via location in Barcelona and celebrating its 40th birthday this year, hosted 4,000 exhibitors from 78 countries and received 140,000 visitors.

Gilbert & Gaillard   27.04.2016 French wine guide Gilbert & Gaillard awards Gold Medal to Vins Padro’s Ipsis Rosé Llàgrima

In the year of its 10th birthday, our D.O. Tarragona Ipsis brand and 7-wine family continues receiving international recognition and this time it was the rosé which received an award: A gold medal from Gilbert & Gaillard.

The awards ceremony for the International Gilbert & Gaillard Wine competition Catalonia 2016, which took place at the Alimentaria 2016 trade show in Barcelona, was attended by Mr. Salvador Puig Rodriguez, director of the Catalan Wine and Cava Institute (INCAVI), François Gilbert, founder of the Gilbert & Gaillard group and Evelyn Israel, winemaker and critic.

Gilbert & Gaillard have over 25 years experience in the promotion and categorizing of specific wines. The group carries out tastings, year after year throughout five different continents and Catalonia was chosen as the specific wine-making region for its exclusive in situ tastings for 2016. Over one week, the group tasted 330 wines and cavas from more than 120 Catalan wineries.

The Gilbert & Gaillard International Wine Magazine is the second most important specialized magazine in the world, with 167,000 copies sold per edition.

Prowein2016   22.03.2016 Presence of Vins Padro’s main products at Prowein

A total of 86 wineries in Catalonia were present at the 2016 edition of Prowein. The event took place from 13-15 March in Düsseldorf, with the support of the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food (through PRODECA) and the co-operation of INCAVI.

Our brands IPSIS (DO Tarragona) and Poesía (DO Catalonia), our Myrrha Vermouth (Reserva, Red and White), our medium-sweet Mediterranean white Nabuc (new in 2016) and some of our table wines were on show at the stand of Padró Group company, Wineintube.


There was marked interest from buyers outside Spain in vermouth in general and in our Myrhha brand in particular.

Prowein, Europe’s most prestigious trade show for wine, with over 6,000 exhibitors from 50 countries, received approximately 55,000 visitors this year.

 

     
  03.03.2016 Peñín 90-point recognition for Myrrha Vermouth

Our Myrrha vermouths recently won a place at the Guia Penin’s exclusive Salon for Premium Spirits in Madrid. The event, held on 1st March and now in its 7th year, provided a special arena for approximately 44 different spirit and vermouth brands, all of them awarded 90+ points in the 2016 edition of Peñín’s guide. This is the first year that the guide includes a vermouth section and the Salon, attended by over 1,200 members of the wines and spirits industry was followed by a Cocktails event (V Cocktail Salon) where attendees were also able to taste a range of amazing cocktails made using vermouth.

Our Vermouth Myrrha Reserva was awarded 90 points with our Myrrha White and Red close behind with 89 points and all three were included in the professional vermouth tasting given during the Salon by Belgian writer, François Conti, author of “El Gran Libro del Vermut” (The Big Vermouth Book).



In addition, cocktail expert, Jordi Vizcarro, was on hand in the evening to mix a special white Myrrha cocktail created for the occasion.

The new version (2016) of Peñín’s Guide to Spirits and Cocktails came out on 10th March.

 

     
  02.03.2016 Catavinum World Wine & Spirits 2016: Nine silver medals for Vins Padró

We are happy to report that our products have recently received renewed recognition, in the form of nine silver medals, from the Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition 2016, an international wine-tasting event organized in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.

Three of the medals went to our Myrrha family of vermouths (Reserva, Red and White)

Our wines were tasted alongside just over 3000 other wines and spirits from more than 28 countries including Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Greece, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Malta, Portugal, South Africa, Spain and the United States. Of the products tasted just 900 or so received medals or diplomas.

One of the objectives of the competition is to bring the quality of the wines given accolades to the attention of consumers and professionals in the industry.

 

     
  25.10.2015 Vins Padró: all star ratings in the new edition of Peñin

Once again Vins Padró has been awarded top ratings for price-quality ratio in Spain’s prestigious Peñin Guide, competing against 11,000 other wines from all over Spain.

The 2016 edition gives a full five stars to all four wines in our DO Tarragona Capitol range and to four out of six of our Ipsis Premium brand wines. In addition, three out of four of our Poesías - one of our very newest brands and the first of our D.O Catalunya lines to receive recognition from Peñin - were also awarded the full five stars.

In terms of points, all four 2011 crianzas tasted, Ipsis Crianza, Ipsis Tempranillo Selecció, Capitol and Poesía received a dignified 87 points whilst our young reds, whites and rosés were rated between 84 and 86 points.

We are delighted with our total of 1114 points and 74 stars, as well as this continued official recognition of a long-standing tradition for unfaltering quality combined with competitive pricing.

  23.09.2015 IPSIS, POESÍA and MYRRHA at the 35th Mostra de Vins i Caves de Catalunya (Wines and Cavas of Catalonia)

Vins Padró was present at the 2015 edition of the Mostra de Vins i Caves held in Barcelona during the La Mercè – Barcelona fiesta mayor celebrations. Visitors had the chance to taste our new Myrrha Vermouths as well as the much-loved Myrrha Rojo and also our Premium wines – Ipsis (DO Tarragona) and Poesía, our up-to-the-minute DO Catalunya.

The 35th edition of the Mostra de Vins i Caves once again hosted a record number of exhibitors: 81 wineries from 12 Catalan denominations of origin, all clearly committed to the market and consumers in the Barcelona area. The fair takes place in the third week of September, right by the city’s beautiful Arc de Triomf and is organized by the Department of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food, the Catalan Vine and Wine Institute (Incavi) and Agrifood Export Promotion (Prodeca).

This year, the organizers of this exceptional display of wine also included a number of stands offering local dishes and appetizers to accompany the wines. Thanks to cooperation between the fair’s organizers and the Catalan Tourism Office, foreign visitors to the fair were also offered information on the wine-tourism opportunities in this part of Spain.

In addition, the fair held its first drawing contest and visitors were asked to pick their favourite design. The winner was presented with a bottle of wine from each of the participating wineries and a complementary wine-tourism experience. Furthermore, wine-painting workshops were held, in collaboration with the company "Drawing on Location".

Moreover, visitors were also able to purchase wines at a wine shop set up at the fair thanks to the renewal of the agreement between the fair’s organizers and Enomatic.

22.09.2015 Myrrha Vermouth tasting at the SantaTeca market in Tarragona

On Saturday 18th September and as part of the Santa Tecla celebrations in Tarragona, we held a tasting for our Myrrha Vermouth at the city’s 5th Santa Teca Regional Market. The tasting was part of Vermut&Swing an event held to promote some of the vermouths produced in this part of Spain – the home of Spanish vermouth. The market took place at the Old Slaughterhouse in Tarragona and was a showcase for local fine food products, fusion cuisine and tasty morsels of contemporary culture.

17.09.2015 Ipsis Crianza at the Hotels with Appellation of Origin Wine Tasting Event

On 15th September and as part of the cycle of events Hotels with Appellation of Origin, DO Tarragona (Tarragona Appellation of Origin Regulatory Board) held a wine-tasting event at the Hotel Espanya in Barcelona.

The Hotel is in Barcelona’s Raval neighbourhood, Sant Pau 9-11 and visitors were able to taste a dozen or so wines from the Tarragona appellation of origin, including our IPSIS Crianza. The event was supervised by Elisa Ribé at the Bar Arnau.

With 150 years of history and remodeling, the Hotel Espanya is one of Barcelona’s most beautiful hotels, a modernist gem just a few metres from the Rambla. The hotel was first opened in 1859 as the Fonda Espanya, one of the busiest and best known places to stay of its time.

The Bar Arnau is inside the hotel and one of its most legendary spots, taking its name from the alabaster fireplace dominating the room which was made by the sculptor Eusebi Arnau. Like the rest of the hotel, the bar is an oasis of peacefulness, a singular but welcoming place to rest that retains the charm of the big modernist salons, combining it with modern-day elegance.

13.09.2015 Myrrha sponsors the 2015 SUNFEC FESTIVAL

Our Myrrha vermouth was one of the main players at the SUNFEC electronic music festival which took place yesterday on the Platja de les Palmeres and at the Parc del Pescador in Cambrils, just south of Tarragona.

The “electronic aperitivo” was accompanied by well-known DJs such as Candy Cox, Robert Lamart, Lexlay and Kaleshy among others.

15.07.2015 "El Vers", un nuevo D.O. Catalunya de Padró

Tarragona winery Vins Padró has added a new range of D.O. Catalunya wines to its catalogue.

The new brand, El Vers is the result of the Padró team’s steadfast and heartfelt mission to produce four wines embodying the strength and character of the winery’s vineyards.

A four-verse stanza to accompany and reflect the character of the vines and give expression to a veritable passion for wine.

El Vers Crianza (Tempranillo - Merlot)
The must is in full contact with the grape skins during the fermentation phase and the wine is then aged in oak barrels for a period of 6 to 9 months.
Warm aromas of ripe summer fruits, blended with vanilla and cinnamon fragances.
Wild fruit flavours mixed with hints of cocoa, coffee and oak lactones.

El Vers Yound Red (Tempranillo - Merlot)
Fermentation is carried out in contact with the grape skins for approximately one week.
This maceration is short but very intense in order to extract good colour and obtain a powerful yet pleasant structure.
Aromas of ripe fruits such as raspberries and currants. The palate is broad and persistent with fruity notes and spices.

El Vers White (Macabeo, Muscat and Xarello)
Each varietal is fermented separately in specific individual fermenting conditions thus enhancing the structure in the mouth of the Xarello and the aromatic properties of the Macabeo and Muscat.
Fruity notes are enhanced by nuances of citrus fruits. A smooth wine, balanced by a nice acid structure

El Vers Rosé (Tempranillo - Merlot)
Intense and very brief maceration of the must with the grape skins. Fermentation is specifically designed to obtain a wine with an enhanced aromatic and fruity character.
Intense aroma of red fruits such as strawberries and cherries. A soft and sweet palate with a balanced acidity that gives the wine a delightful freshness.

15.06.2015 Three awards for three IPSIS Wines

The DO Tarragona Bottled Wines Awards were held on Friday 12th June at the Metropol Theatre gardens and a total of 21 awards were given to 11 wineries. Vins Padró from Bràfim, De Muller from Reus and the Vila-rodona Cooperative were the wineries receiving the most accolades. This seventeenth edition of the competition, held as part of the XXI DO Tarragona Wine Fair, was attended by representatives of wineries, public authorities and also the general public.

The Padró winery’s brand IPSIS Grans Vins, was awarded the following three prizes:

1st PRIZE in the Crianza category: IPSIS SELECCION TEMPRANILLO CRIANZA 2011
2nd Prize in the Aromatic Whites category: IPSIS BLANC FLOR 2014
2nd Prize in the Young Reds category: IPSIS TEMPRANILLO-MERLOT 2014

The competition consisted of a blind tasting at the Faculty of Oenology at Tarragona’s Rovira i Vigili University, of about 80 samples from approximately twenty wineries. Professor Montse Nadal led the tasting panel consisting of 25 tasters including winemakers, journalists and sommeliers. The tasting included wines from all the four regions that make up the DO Tarragona: Alt Camp, Baix Camp, Tarragona and Ribera d'Ebre.

Other winners included Mas Vicenç from Cabra del Camp, Vins Suñer from Ginestar, Adernats by the Nulles Cooperative, the Janine de Rodonyà Vineyard, the Mas Bella de Masmolets Winery, the Reus Group of Wineries, Winery 9+ from La Nou de Gaia and the Botó d’Alforia Winery.

The fair itself, at which Vins Padró was also present, was highly successful overall and the IPSIS and Myrrha families were the stars of the Bràfim winery’s stand.

 

     
 

11.06.2015 Vins Padró takes its Bronzes to the DO Tarragona Wine Fair

The XVII edition of the DO Tarragona Wine Fair is taking place this coming weekend. From 12th to 14th June, over 25 exhibitors, including wineries and companies involved in the wine world, will be present on Tarragona’s Rambla Nova.

The fair, which kicks off on Friday at 6.30pm with the award ceremony for DO Tarragona bottled wines, will feature activities throughout the weekend such as wine-tasting courses and musical performances.

At the Vins Padró stand, visitors will be able to try wines from the IPSIS family (including the two Decanter 2015 Bronze medal holders, Chardonnay and our new Ipsis Mas d'Infants) and also our three Myrrha vermouths (including the Reserva – awarded Bronze Medal at the recent Vinari Vermouth Awards).

We are also holding a prize draw competition at the stand in which you can win a pack of the 3 vermouths + a Myrrha T-shirt, one more reason to come along and taste our wines.

08.06.2015 Vins Padró expands its range of wines in half-bottle format

In line with our ongoing efforts to expand our range of products and adapt to market needs, we have just launched a half-bottle size for our table-wine brands Xantal and Cumbrany, previously only available in the 75cl format. Our customers can now choose from 13% vol. Cumbrany Red or Cumbrany White and 11.5% vol Xantal Red or Xantal White in the 37.5cl format.

We hope these four newcomers will be welcome additions to our existing half-bottle table wine brand Sangor and DO Catalunya Poesia, both of which are available in white and young red.

25.05.2015 Decanter accolades for Ipsis Whites

It’s an especially happy year for Ipsis whites with recent recognition from Decanter World Wine Awards 2015 for both wines submitted. Our 2014 Chardonnay and our new wine, Mas d’Infants – an inviting and well-balanced Muscat/Chardonnay/Xarello coupage and brand new member of the Ipsis family both received Bronze awards in the competition.

We are proud to see that our Chardonnay – which also received full marks for price/quality ratio (5/5 stars) in this year’s Guía Peñin, is also coming into its own alongside our regular award-winner Ipsis Crianza. For those looking for a really good un-oaked Chardonnay, unrivalled in value for money, this is probably a good year to try what Ipsis has to offer – even though we say so ourselves!

     
  25.05.2015 Vins Padró at Fenavin 2015 12-14th May

We were down in Ciudad Real again this year at Fenavin - Spain’s largest annual wine fair - to show off the brand new additions to our Myrrah Vermouths. A very tempting white, perfect for summer and complex but silkily smooth Reserva to accompany our much-loved Myrrah Rojo.

We also brought along our 2014 DO Catalunya baby, Poesía, already taking leaps and bounds both at home and abroad and the new member of our Ipsis family Mas d’Infants, a coupage of three white grapes grown locally: Muscat, Chardonnay and Xarello.

The trade show is one of our favourites for catching up with current importers and meeting new potential buyers but it’s also a great opportunity for all to update on what’s happening in Spain.

     
  05/01/2015 Bronze Recognition for Myrrha Vermouth Reserva at the prestigious VINARI Catalan Vermouth Awards 2015

The final tasting was carried out by a panel of winemakers, sommeliers, bartenders, journalists and other members of the vermouth industry, including: the Managing Director of the Catalan Institute of Vines and Wine (INCAVI), Jordi Bort; President of the Bartenders Club, Josep Maria Gotarda, head gastronomy journalist at the main Catalan TV station, Tana Collados and sommelier Clara Antúnez.

The winning vermouths were announced at a ceremony held at the Museum of Vermouth in Reus and chaired by journalist Xavier Grasset.

The ceremony was attended by the Head of the Catalan Department of Agriculture, Food and the Natural Environment (DAAM), Mr. Josep Maria Pelegri and the Mayor of Reus, Mr. Carlos Pellicer, among other local dignitaries and representatives of the event’s sponsors such as Pilar Puértolas, Managing Director of soda-siphon company Sanmy Geiser.

The VINARI Catalan Vermouth Awards 2015, organised by Catalan wine publication VADEVI.cat, is Catalonia’s first contest for this type of herb-flavoured wines.

  25.03.2015 Thirteen Silver Medals in the International Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition

Vins Padró is delighted to announce a further affirmation of the winery’s commitment to the production of both quality and well-priced wines. A number of our wines have been selected, from among almost 2500 entries in the International Catavinum World Wine & Spirits Competition, for their intense and complex aromas, full-bodied and well-balanced character and good persistent finish. Our Ipsis Crianza and Blanc Flor, as well as wines from our Crinel, Capitol and Poesía lines were among those to receive the corresponding Silver Medal.

VINS PADRÓ will be present at the Guía Peñín's III Salón de las Estrellas taking place in Madrid on 25th November, 2014. This event is an exclusive showcase for all Spanish wines rated highest (4 or 5 stars) for price/quality ratio in the 2015 edition of the country's renowned Guía Peñín.

  • 5 stars: wines with 85-89 points and a retail price in Spain of 5 euros or less and wines with 90+ points and a retail price in Spain of 10 euros or less.
  • 4 stars: wines with 85-89 points and a retail price in Spain of between 5 and 8 euros and wines with 90+ points and a retail price in Spain of between 10 and 13 euros.

It is an invaluable opportunity for the wineries concerned, since the event will bring together more than 1500 wine industry professionals, including the press, sommeliers, importers, distributors, restauranteurs and hoteliers, etc., at whom this event is primarily targeted. Non-industry visitors may purchase tickets from 5pm onwards.

Last year's Salón de las Estrellas received a total of 2,000 visitors between the two big Spanish cities with 112 participant wineries in Madrid and 70 in Barcelona.

  05.06.2012 DO Tarragona Wine Fair

VINS PADRÓ took part in the XIV Edition of the DO Tarragona Wine Fair, together with 18 other wineries, in this edition it reached its goals exceeding the quantity of 22,000 wine tasting in three days.

Our presence in this Wine Fair supports all the Tarragona restaurants and the other towns of Tarragona that trust in our brands and our wines.

During the opening of this edition on Friday night, Wine Competition Awards were given at the gardens of the Metropol Theatre.

  16.05.2012 Vins Padró, S.L.  bottles a wine with the official trade mark of FC Barcelona

Vins Padró, S.L.  bottles a wine with the official trade mark of FC Barcelona under the designation of D.O. Catalunya, with totally and exclusive distribution in Japan for DOSHISHA Corporation, one of the largest importers of food and alcoholic beverages of Japan.

The business relationship began coinciding with the participation of FC Barcelona in the World Cup last December 2011 and will continue throughout this year 2012.

This is the advertising of our wine in a Japanese football magazine.

We are very proud to make a wine that represents the FC Barcelona because we have also worked with the same philosophy, involving all the staff of the cellar with their individual contributions, their enthusiasm, and commitment to accomplish a project.

  25.11.2011 Vins Padró participates in Generic Brand Fair in Madrid

Currently the Spanish market is heading towards the distribution of generic brands and a conscious and curious consumer increasingly is interested in trying and buying generic labels as a way to save money without sacrificing the quality.

To take advantage to this trend and to collect customers through this line, VINS PADRO participates in this exhibition to display their products and present the innovations of the winery.

It was a fair to interact with suppliers and buyers and strengthen the image of VINS PADRO as a supplier of generic brands, offer our products to discount stores and wholesalers, both Spanish and international markets.

     
     
  14.11.2011 Vins Padró at Catavins Sabadell

During the weekend of November 11 to 13 CATAVINS Sabadell was celebrating its fourth year edition, a fair especially dedicated for wine professionals.

This fair is a great opportunity to introduce the wines in the international markets and achieve recognition by the jury of the Wine Competition CATAVINS Sabadell.

In this competition our wine IPSIS Negre Criança 2007 receives the Gold Medal as the best crianza wine.

     
     
  22.07.2011 Ipsis Negre Criança 2007 continues gathering prizes and awards

Now it comes from the hand of the most influential global wine critic Robert Parker, director of the magazine "The Wine Advocate", he just published a new list with the best wines of Catalonia.

For the first time he has been tasting wines from the DO Tarragona, scoring the IPSIS Negre Criança 2007 with 87 points, with a consideration of remarkably high.

Other international awards for our wine IPSIS Negre Criança 2007 are:

VINS PADRO was present at the 18th edition of the Wine Fair PROWEIN held in Düsseldorf from 27th to 29th March 2011.

It is a show aimed exclusively at professional audience. One of the most important wine fairs, both in number of visitors as well as the importance of the exhibitors.

The importance of this exhibition makes this mission one of the most relevant for searching business and the consolidation of business relationships for our winery.

     
     
  02.22.2011 Biela Club 600, a caravan of 40 vintage cars visit Vins Padró.

Vins Padró received last February 1st the visit of the Biela Club 600, a caravan of 40 vintage cars.

Before they arrived to our winery, they visited the Sanctuary of the Mare de Déu del Loreto in Bràfim, where they watched excellent views of our town, also different crops of our lands and the Sierra de Miramar in the background.

Once at Vins Padró many of them could park their vehicles within our facilities. The visit consisted in tasting some of our wines: Ipsis Blanc Flor, Ipsis Jove Merlot and Ipsis Criança 2007.

Everything happened in a nice atmosphere. The winery’s background changed completely during that sunny Sunday morning. It seemed that we step back in time, a period of time that the winery already lived before and that new generations try to get an idea.

The Restaurateurs' Association of Torredembarra visited the premises of Vins Padró as part of the activities organised for the 9th Torredembarra Autumn Gastronomy Days, an initiative intended to enrich the gastronomic and tourism offering of this town in the province of Tarragona.

During their visit the restaurateurs were able to discover at first hand how Vins Padró creates its different ranges and to conduct a wine tasting and pairing.

Padró will in fact this month be on hand with a wine expert who will be hosting the pairing dinners being served up at a number of restaurants in the town on Fridays in November (provided that a minimum of ten prior bookings have been made).

     
     
  01.11.2010 Vins Padró's Ipsis to partner the Torredembarra Gastronomy Days

Vins Padró is taking part in the 9th Torredembarra Autumn Gastronomy Days, which aim to give added value to the tourism offering of this town in the province of Tarragona.

On these days, which will be held up until 28 November, the establishments belonging to the Restaurateurs' Association of Torredembarra will every Friday be serving up a wine pairing dinner, hosted by an expert oenologist from Vins Padró.

The event is intended to bring together local fruit and vegetable produce from Torredembarra, Mediterranean cuisine and Padró's D.O. Tarragona wines, above all the award-winning Ipsis Criança 2007, particularly rated for the remarkable value for money it offers.

The wine pairing dinners will be held, with prior booking, at the following restaurants:

Five wines by Vins Padró given high scores in 2011 edition of prestigious wine guide

Vins Padró has once again received positive reviews in the Guía Peñín, one of the leading reference works analysing and rating Spanish wines.

In its 2011 edition, recently published and distributed to bookshops across Spain, Peñín has given five Vins Padró wines a score above 85. The Ipsis Crianza 2007 red was the highest-rated out of all those tasted, garnering a total of 91 points.

Ipsis Crianza 2007 is also, according to the recommendations published in the guide, one of the four best buys from the Tarragona designation of origin on the basis of the excellent value for money it offers.

Peñín meanwhile awarded the Ipsis Tempranillo Selecció and Crinel 2009 reds 89 points, and gave the Crinel 2007 a score of 88. The outstanding white was Ipsis Blanco Flor 2009, which earned 87 points.

The Guía Peñín 2011 fills some 1300 pages and includes tasting notes on over 9400 wines from more than 2000 featured wineries

  01.10.2010 Ipsis warmly received at the 30th Wines and Cavas of Catalonia Fair

Vins Padró was involved at the 30th Wines and Cavas of Catalonia Fair, held in September at the Moll de la Fusta in Barcelona's harbour area as part of the programme to celebrate the fiesta of the city's patroness, La Mercè.

This is a now traditional meeting point for producers and consumers of wine-related products, and for Vins Padró represents an excellent opportunity to showcase its recently garlanded wines, including Ipsis Crianza 2007, winner of a Silver Medal at the Sélections Mondials des Vins in Canada, and awarded 91 points by the Guía Peñín.

Over the course of this long-standing event those in attendance were treated to live music, information about Catalonia's designations of origin and the chance to try the products on display at the various stands. Vins Padró's Ipsis was particularly well received, arousing the interest of visitors thanks to the excellent value for money offered by this high-quality product.

CATALAN WINES USA is a new platform for the promotion of Catalan Wines in the United States. The platform includes a group of selected wineries, which their wines are already available in the US market.

VINS PADRO is one of the wineries participating in this platform. We presented three of our wines IPSIS Red Crianza 2007, CAPITOL Young Red Wine 2009, and VIÑA EL VILÀ Young Red Wine 2009.

The first event took place at Jaleo Restaurant in Washington DC, on August 23rd, this event was open to importers, distributors, wholesalers and also to press.

     
     
  30.07.2010 Vins Padró involved in 13th Wines and Cavas of Alt Camp Promotional Week

The Vins Padró winery was represented at the wine pairings evening for restaurateurs and wine professionals of the D.O. Tarragona region, held at the Hotel Class in Valls.

The wine presented at the occasion by Vins Padró was their red Ipsis Negre Jove Merlot 2009, which chef Àngel Solé of the restaurant El Tast de l'Àngel paired with his bacon crunch with courgette.

The aim of the event is to rediscover and showcase the quality of some of the most representative and highly valued wines of the Alt Camp district by bringing together the worlds of oenology and gastronomy.

With this idea in mind the chef suggests a number of original dishes to be paired with local wines and cavas.

The wine pairing evening forms part of the programme of events marking the 13th Wines and Cavas of Alt Camp Promotional Week, which comes to an end next week.

     
     
  07.07.2010 Silver Medal for Ipsis

The Vins Padró 2007 vintage, representing the Tarragona Designation of Origin, was awarded the honour at the leading Canadian Wine Tasting.

The international jury of the Sélections Mondiales des Vins gave the Vins Padró Ipsis Crianza 2007 a score of 83.17, enough to earn it a Silver Medal.

The diploma in recognition of the wine's prowess was handed out at the 17th edition of the Sélections Mondiales des Vins awards, held from 1 to 6 June in the Canadian city of Quebec. The event is viewed as one of the most significant wine fairs in the world and forms part of VinoFed, the Worldwide Federation of Major International Wines and Spirits Competitions.

The Sélections Mondiales is organised in accordance with the robust standards of objectivity imposed by the international competition rules of the OIV, VinoFed and UIOE. The samples presented are assessed by international juries made up of members of established ability, integrity and independence.

At this year's edition the Vins Padró Ipsis Crianza 2007 received a Silver Medal, competing alongside a further 1789 products from 600 different makers in 32 countries.

The award goes hand-in-hand with those previously garnered by the Ipsis Crianza 2005: two Gold Medals, at the Challenge International des Vins in Bordeaux and at Canada's Sélections Mondials des Vins; a Silver Medal in the Best Spanish Wines category at MUNDUSvini in Germany, and a 91-point rating awarded by the Guía Peñín.

"We were looking to create a vintage which would serve as our establishment's image and hallmark on international markets. And so we chose a coupage featuring two varieties, our local Tempranillo and the imported Merlot. We use a number of different types of barrel to shape its character, resulting in a distinctive wine spanning a spectrum of aromatic registers. The Silver Medal we have just won is the first international honour for the 2007 vintage, which we only recently released onto the market," explains Montse Padró, Director of External Relations at Vins Padró.

20.02.2010 Concludes the Centenary of Valls Chamber of Commerce with the recognition of 56 companies.

The winery received on February 19th the recognition for his long career. The President of the Generalitat de Catalunya, José Montilla, presided the commemorating ceremony of the Centenary.
